What does ABBA look like now, 40 years after their last album?

Iconic pop group ABBA announced their return to the business with a new album, titled Voyage, and a virtual concert in 2022. It’s been 40 years since their last release, so they’re definitely going to look different!

Forget Drake and Kanye West, ABBA is coming back and they’re going to dominate the charts.

In a livestream on September 2, 2021, the four-piece reunited to announce their new album after four decades and even have concerts lined up in May 2022.

Just to explain the how serious the UK takes ABBA, the concerts will be taking place in London, in a custom-built arena in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, East London.

Has any other artist had an venue built for them?

What does ABBA look like now?

The Swedish group had their breakthrough in 1974 after winning the Eurovision on their third attempt; at the time, all members were in their mid to late twenties.

Now, Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad are all in their seventies, yet that’s not stopping their careers!

Well kind of – the concert will feature only virtual avatars of the singers, which they motion captured beforehand. We think there’s two reasons for this approach: they would prefer not to perform live since it would be extremely tiring, and mainly because they wanted to transport their old selves into 2021.

The reason for the ABBA split

ABBA was made up of two couples, Björn and Agnetha, and Benny and Anni-Frid.

Björn and Agnetha married in 1971, before the creation of the group and Benny and Anni-Frid were engaged in 1969 but did not marry until 1978.

Their break-up was never officially announced, but rumours swirled after their last public performance in 1982. Agnetha and Björn had divorced two years earlier and Benny and Anni-Frid separated in 1981.

Their success reportedly put a strain on their marriages and with the members focused on individual ventures, dedication to the group was dwindling.

Over the years, the members consistently stated that they would never reunite since there was no need and wanted fans to remember fans as they were.

In 2014, Björn explained, “We took a break in ‘82, and it was meant to be a break. It’s still a break and will remain so. You’ll never see us on stage again.”

However, they were last united in Stockholm in 2016 for the opening of Mamma Mia! The Party experience, where Anni-Frid said “It [the reunion] was absolutely amazing. A lot of emotions.”

So forget what they said, get ready to sing your hearts out.
