The first Premier League Player of the Month award of the season is up for grabs, and in our view, there can really only be one winner.
There are nominees from the likes of Tottenham, Everton and Manchester United, but for our money, a man from West Ham has to be the winner.
Of course, we’re talking about Michail Antonio.
It’s easy to say Antonio should win just because he’s scored more goals than any other player this month, and to be fair, that is partially why we’re picking him, but his game has been about so much more than that.
Just look at his performance against Leicester City as an example. It was the perfect number nine display. Antonio was a nuisance all evening and he’s been doing that in every single game thus far.
Antonio has been the best player in the league for the past month, his goals and his overall play show that, and his showings have played a massive part in the Hammers’ early success.
The London club sit second in the table, and while Tottenham are top and Eric Dier would be a fair candidate for this award, nobody has come close to Antonio in terms of performance or sheer impact.
Joe Willock was the last winner of this award back in May after his incredible performances for Newcastle, but it may be time for his crown to be passed to Antonio.
