Wolverhampton Wanderers rate former Liverpool defender Ki-Jana Hoever highly, according to The Athletic.

What’s the story?

Liverpool sold Hoever to Premier League rivals Wolves last summer.

According to Sky Sports, the Wanderers paid the Reds an initial transfer fee of £10 million.

The 19-year-old is a versatile defender who can operate as a central defender or as a right-back.

The Athletic have reported this morning that Hoever is ‘already viewed as an intelligent leader and organiser despite his tender years’.

Did Liverpool make a mistake?

Now, Liverpool are well stocked in defence.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the best right-backs in the world and is one of the first names on the Liverpool teamsheet.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate are the main centre-back options for manager Jurgen Klopp at the moment.

Hoever made five starts and seven substitute appearances in the Premier League last season.

The Dutchman is still developing and progressing as a footballer and has a lot to do before he can establish himself as a first-team regular at Wolves.

However, given that Hoever is reportedly already viewed as a leader by Wolves, perhaps Liverpool sold the defender a bit prematurely.

Maybe it would have been better if Liverpool had sent him out on loan instead of selling him permanently.
